COMBAT TEAM LAUDED FOR THEIR FIGHTING QUALITY WITH THE AMERICAN ARMY IN ITALY, Nov. 27,- There are few if any more loyal soldiers than the Japanese- Americans of the 100th In- fantry Battalion now fight- ing the Nazis in this the- ater. That's the word of sol- dier-comrades and officers whose story, although nec- essarily brief because of security, is told here for publication for the first time: A picture of their few days in a port of embar- kation and their trip to this theater which shows them loyal, democratic , earnest, ready to fight- and inveterate gamblers. They went into the fight in Italy shouting "Remember Pearl Harbor” which totally confused the enemy and, to a lesser degree, confused some Americans. SAW JAPS ATTACK Americans are sensitive about Pearl Harbor, but the 100th Infantry Battalion- recruited from loyal Japa- nese-Americans in the Ha- waiian Islands--is especial- ly resentful. So are most of their friends and rela- tives, as evidenced by a letter signed by hundreds of Japanese-American girls in Hawaii and received just as the unit left its port of embarkation. The letter said: "Beloved Friends and Brothers of the 100th Infantry: "We are so proud that you are able to represent us from the Hawaiian Islands and that you have been given ----continued on page 8--- ACTING ATTORNEY ARRIVES HERE Jack Curtis from Rohwer, Ark., arrived here Monday to act as temporary project attorney during Donald Horn’s absence.
