PIONEER Sports November 10, 1943 Page 7 High School Select Rooters Enthusiastic rooting section headed by yell lead- ers Shigeko Hamaoka, Janet Kubochi and Shigeko Saka- moto was formed by the A- mache senior high school recently. They will probably make their debut at tomorrow's Amache Boys' club vs Holly high football tussle, stated Josephine Korsoski, high school PE instructress. CO-EDS ELIGIBLE FOR REC LEAGUE Contrary to another one of Dame Rumor's undounded tales the story circulated among high school co-eds that they were ineligible to participate in the rec- reation department girls’ cage league is just so much ----- well, untruth. In an interview with recreation athletic head your sports scribe received necessary clarification on the matter, to wit: All high school girls are eligi- ble to play on any team en- tered in the girls' casaba league, only the boys were made ineligible. AMACHE-HOLLY GRID TILT SET; MEET TOMORROW AT LOCAL FIELD In the much hearlded Armistice Day gridiron clas - sic between the maroon clad Holly Wildcats and the hi- therto untried Amache Boys' club footballers, the local grid fans will see unfold- ed an interesting exchange of bruising blocks and vic- ious , tackles on the wind- swept 10F field tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Coach Pete Furuta is worried over his squad's lack of practice that may seriously affect the clock- like precision necessary for fast reverses, tricky fakes and other intricate workings of the highly po- tent "A" formation. With fleetfooted full- back Dave Matsushima power- housing, together with shifty, hula-hipped Andy Takata at the halfback post, the , local eleven will stake their hopes on individual speed and power to score at least two touchdowns - perhaps enough to win. Holly prepsters will be led by giant Leon Beer, who will push his 200-pound bulk from the fullback socket, while 155-pound signal cal- ler Leroy Handle will be in the driver's seat to direct the visiting grid- sters vaunted attack. Against the so-called Wildcat ground attack cen- tered around cleverly con- ceived end-around sweeps generating from the baffling and highly deceptive "T" formation, the underdog Amacheites will pit their fast, clever ends to “seal the fate” of Holly plays before they hit the danger zone. The probable starting lineups as announced by Amache Boys' club Coach Pete Furuta and Holly high school's Coach Wayne Dillon are: AMACHE B0Y’S CLUB Wt. Pos. Wt. FRIDAY NIGHT MANAGERS’ ONFAB CALLED In order to set up rules and regulations and draw up the schedules for the coming basketball campaign, a very important managers ' meeting will be called this Friday night at the 7E rec- reation office from 7 o' clock under Athletic Direc- tor Harry Shironaka's chair- manship. All team managers of "AA", "A", Industrial and Girls leagues, who have signed up or are planning to enter in any recreation leagues, are requested to attend this conference. This will positively be the last and final chance to enter in any one of the cage circuits, warned Shi- ronaka. Only 13 Teams Are Signed Up Recreation department sponsored cage leagues are going thru a very bad case of team-famine and center Athletic Director Harry Shironaka is going thru a series of disappointments because the various league sign-ups are much lower than expected. Up to yesterday morning only 13 teams have placed their names on four div- isions, as follows: "AA"--Beacons, Yoomees, Dusters and a team vet to be named. "A"-- Firemen, Royal Flushers, and Zephyrs. Industrial- -Hospital, Garage, Recreation and Butcher. Girls--Ramblerettes and Spurs. ORDERS ELECTRIC CAST SCOREBOARD This season's Amache basketball fans will be able to follow the games more accurately, thanks to the recreation department's generositv in installing an electrically operated scoreboard at the high school gymnasium. According to Community Activity Supervisor Harvey Turk, the scoreboard is ex- pected to arrive in about two weeks and will be placed in service for all league games.
