September 1, 1943_____________PIONEER______________________Page 7 7O0 Students Expected To Be Enrolled in High School Approximately 700 stu- dents are expected to be enrolled in the center high schools when the new term opens Tuesday,accord- ing to Herbert K. Walther, secondary schools principal. Seventh and eighth graders are expected to total 275. Dr. Enoch Dumas, ele- mentary school principal, discloses an enrollment in the elementary school of about 775 children, exclu- sive of the nursery school. Twenty-six teachers are ready to report for work in the secondary schools, and 17 in the elementary division. A number of students who are out on seasonal- work leaves are expected to return to the center by the time school opens. Ac- cording to present plans, the school year will end on May 19, 1944. NEW STUDENTS ARE TO ENROLL FRIDAY All children who have, not attended the pre-school, kindergarten,or elementary school are asked to register at the elementary school office, 8H-9A, Friday, according to Dr. Enoch Dumas, elementary school principal. KAWAMURA BECOMES BRIDE OF NAKAYAMA Margie Kawamura, 7E-6D, became the bride of Frank Nakayama, 7H-6D, at the latter's home Saturday eve- ning, with Rev. Takayu Shirakawa officiating. A reception followed in the 7H mess hall. Baishakunins were Dr. and Mrs. T. Terami and Mr. and Mrs. N. Yamane. Y’s way A "Back to School" social is scheduled for Friday evening at Terry Hall, un- der the sponsorship of five GR clubs. The Patricians will be in charge of refreshments; the Las Ninas,decorations; Meta Adelphons, music and general arrangements; and the Tri-Delts, invitations and publicity. A final meeting of all the committees will be held at 7 o'clock in Hos- pitality House. Y The Wee Teeners and Jun- iorettes will hold a social Saturday evening at Hospi- tality House. Y A joint meeting of Jun- iorettes, Wee-Teeners, and Las Allegrias, sponsored by the Tri-Delts, was held last week. Nurse Ruth Hud- son was guest speaker. Y The Escalantas met re- cently at Hospitality House to hear Mrs. Fumi Gondo who spoke on "Boy And Girl Re- lationships.” CHRISTIAN YOUTH ELECT SAMESHIMA At an election held Sat- urday, the following offi- cers of the Christian Youth fellowship were selected: Akira Sameshima, presi- dent; Tom Nakashima, vice- president; George Hinoki, treasurer; Cowl Takao, sec- retary; Yoshiko Sato and Art Shoji; social chairmen; Mary Noda,missionary chair- man; Joe Kamiya, lockout chairman; and Namiko Ota, music chairman. These officers will serve for three months,af- ter which another election will be held. ADVENTISTS WILL USE 9K REC HALL The 9H recreation hall which was formerly occupied by the senior high school machine shop will be used by the Amache Seventh-Day Adventists for church ser- vices. The interior is being lined with celotex and the hall will be ready for use sometime this week. ________ACCIDENTS_________ George Fuji_waka, 24, 7H- 3B, lacerations of left small finger caused by smashing it between a veg- e t a b 1 e refrigerator and hand truck in a warehouse, Aug. 23. Shizuki Arii, 54, 7E-2A, cut finger while working at the butcher shop, Aug. 25. Yusaka Yamoto,63,9H-12C, fell on left leg, causing foot abrasion and contusion, while helping to carry a concrete block, Aug, 25. ====WANTED==== General mess-hall work- ers. Please report to Toshio Shimbori at the mess-division office. ONDO PRACTICES ARE HELD AT 11G In preparations for the hospital social on Saturday, ondo practices are being held at 11G grounds every evening, from 8 to 10, ac- cording to Berry Suzukida, publicity chairman. Every- one is welcome to partici- pate in the practices. On Saturday evening there will be entertainment from 6:3O to 8:30p.m. at the high school auditorium, and from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. the ondo dances will take place. The public is in- vited to these events. The second meeting in the Third Series Evangelis- tic effort will be held In the 9H recreation hall to- morrow night at 7:30. Travel movies of Japan and. newsreels will be shown after the lecture. The public is invited. YBA CABINET The YBA cabinet is con- tern plating the publication of the Buddhist Gathabooks, which will contain Buddhist songs and tunes.
