August 2 5, 1943 •■ -. .FIOHEER MYEK scwasmes mmcm Squashing prevalent rumors of the closing of certain relocation centers, TOA'Director Dillon S.Myer this week announced that there are "no plans for closing any relocation center in the immediate future." Myer's complete statement reads : "I am anxious to correct an impression which has been created in some places that some or all the relocation centers are to be closed In the near future. While it is true that the long-range goal of the War Relocation authority is to enable as many as possible CONFERENCES HELD REGARDING MOVES Conference between block ma nagers and the housing section regarding Contemplated moves within the blocks have been taking place since yesterday according to E. B. Eaklor, housing superintendent. Requests and instructions for moves will be issued only after all plans have been checked and approved by the housing secti'on. CIO Backs Up Nisei Members That there were some 2000 CIO members among the Japanese Americans; that they were becoming well integrated into American life before evacuation,and that their skills and abilities should .. be utilized now to help win this war, was expressed by Monroe Sweet land, national CIO war relief committee director, in the August issue of the CIO War Relief hews, published ,in' Washington. .. Sweetland declared that "together with the CIO Committee to Abolish Race Discrimination and in consult- t a t i on with government agencies, we are trying to help these CIO brothers and s ister s —whose only of f ense, sadly enough,was that they picked-the wrong ancestors." VHTdH DEATH: To Mrs.Kimiko Kaiiwara, 40 years, 12K-1C, Aug. 23. of the eligible evacuees to relocate, we realize that it will be a slow process. We have no plans for closing any relocation center in the immediate future.As relocation takes place and more people move outside,we expect to. close some centers,but this will rot take place in the near future. There will be no compulsion to relocate outside of centers, although we hope that an increasing number of peop 1 e now 1iv ing in relocation centers will find it to their advantage to relocate and become self- supporting, " _ _.... ___.„__...._.......page 9 HOSPITAL CALLS HELP NEtDED With the relocation program 'decreasing the nursing personne1 dur ing the past few weeks, the center hospital sends out an urgent plea for residents to serve as nurses' aides,announces Chief Nurse Alma K. Polda. Issei and nisei alike are urged to offer their services in order to give proper care to patients. All members and Sunday school superintendents are requested to be present. Prevailing wages will be paid.
