Page 6________________PIONEER_________________August 7, 1943 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to the boss by patrick xxxxxxxxxxxx dear boss: i haven't been the same since the other night. all the wild talk about the 8k "ball of fire" had me go- ing and my nerves were a bit edgy...anyway it hap- pened that i was walking my best gal home from a stuffy rat-race . the night was darker than usual (or so i thought) and i kept imagining that it was an ideal night for the ball of fire to come whizzing out at me. just as we were camel-ing our way thru the heavy sand between the 8k and 9k rec halls, it happened. a figure raised itself from the ground! and my hair raised itself off my head, she screeched. i couldn't; i had swallowed my tongue, but i did man- age to chatter, "let's be brave," and we ran like hell! i expected the fig- ure to burst into a ball of fire any second and come high-tailing after us, but n 'ball, no fire. how come? the next day, i found out that that figure was a member of the police force planted there to keep an eye open for the mystery- ous spherical flame. i threw up my hands. any- way, i don't care who says what, i haven't been the same--and i just can't do a thing with my hair,.. patrick Detention URGE CONTINUANCE LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 - Despite "presumed loyalty” of the evacuees, a reso- lution was adopted by the Assembly Interim Committee on the Japanese Problem, to confine them to deten- tion camps and relocation centers for the duration. Leo V. Youngworth, at- torney, said that he also favored the proposal to deprive all persons of Japanese ancestry (nisei) of their citizenship.' LAS ALLEGRIAS TO HOLD PICNIC The Las Allegrias, Ama- che senior high school girls' service club, and their guests will hold their midsummer get-together pic- nic at Koen Ranch this evening. Jane Kubota, president of the club, is the general chairman for the event. Mrs. Katherine Stegner, senior high social studies instructor, is the acting advisor of the club. ===WANTED=== Five men, 18 years or over, are wanted for dor- mitory work at the Naval Language school at the U- niversity of Colorado. Those interested should ap- ply immediately at the em- ployment office. ===TRANSFERS=== Mrs. Kikue Tanikawa and four children, James, Na- omi, Elsie and Frances, from Tule Lake.
