johnnie presents by tsurata Joseph Patrick Ide, our outside news man is guest writing our column today, the 2nd half of the AA league is scheduled to get under way tomorrow, and, from here,it looks as tho' the big-shot deltans will continue to monopolize the win column and repeat their 1st half performance of no losses... offhand, we can't think of a team that can hand them a setback, unless it be the dusters, they have a young outfit full of get-up-and- go, a good coach, and a smart manager. whats more, they have two top-flight chuckers in bob umekubo and John niizawa. we think niizawa should be used more frequently,he 's got plenty on the ball... the rumored breakup of the doleful dodgers may become reality. if this is so,the biggest booty would be leftfielder jack hama- hashi, the best in the league. the dusters, we hear, have first call on his services. nob kuwatani, joe shiro, and dave matsu- shima are other prize catches. the disbanding of the dodgers would mean one thing: the loss of color on the playing field, their uniforms are uniformly colorful… about A leaguer jiro tani of the waks: back in '28, while scintillating as ace moundsman for the roosevelt high nine in 1.a_, he chalked up a 1-hit win, but that isn't what makes this interesting, he struck out 24 men! he'd still chuck, he says, only his wing is shot... the best game yet played in either league was the recent A bracket set-to be- tween the league-leading marks and the under-rated, raiders, which ended in a 0-0 tie. the kids showed pro form and whipped thru 6 frames in 1 ½ hrs. we like the deltans, who would be just another team without nishijima, against the always dangerous motor pool, tomorrow, and the dusters against the knines, despite opponent-demoraliz- ing kay sugahara bellowing from the coach's line… NISHIJIMA RETAINS A A SWAT CROWN Mas "Lefty" Nishijima, Deltans' slugging pitcher, dropped almost 150 points in two weeks, but retained his AA batting leadership with a neat .529 average, getting 9 for 17, as the first half of the circuit ended Sunday.
