Granada PIONEER Vol, I, No. 73 Amache, Colorado June 12, 1943 1000 BUSHELS OF SPINACH SENT TO ARMY, POSTON, GILA One thousand bushels of spinach grown on the cen- ter farm were shipped to the US Army through the Army Quartermaster corps, announced Project Director James G . Lindley. In addition to the amount sent to the Army,600 bush- els were shipped to the Poston center and 600 more to the Gila river center. Food produced here at the center will ordinarily be used for subsistence of the evacuees, Lindley said, but when surpluses cannot be canned on the project they will be made available to other centers or to the Army. FENNELL HERE FOR INTERVIEWS James W. Fennell, WRA relocation officer of the Pueblo district, will dis- cuss relocation opportuni- ties in the Pueblo district with interested persons Tuesday morning at the em- ployment office. The purpose of the in- terview is to discuss pre- sent openings and also those fields which are not open now that should be developed. The Pueblo district covers 18 counties in the south- eastern part of the state, DATES FOR CO-OP REBATES ARE SET Rebates of 5per cent on cash sales receipts up to March 31 of the Community Enterprises will be made beginning Tuesday at the respective mess halls on the following schedule: June 15-11H,9H, and 6G; June 16 -11K, 9L, and 7K; June 17 -12F, 9E, and 6H; June 18- 11F, 8K, and 7E; June 19 -12G, 7G, and 6F. BLOCK REPRESENTATIVES ELECTION TO BE HELD An election of block representatives will be held Tuesday from 12 noon to 7 p.m. at the respective block information offices. COMPENSATION TO BE EXTENDED On February 15, 1934 benefits of the federal employees compensation were extended to workers em- ployed by the relief proj- ects. This same provision was also extended to the evacuees employed by the WRA. Under this act and the US Employees Compensation Act the widow of a deceased until she remarries will receive 35% of his salary. An additional 10% is granted, for each child until the child becomes 18 or mar- ries. The total amount that she is eligible to receive is $4000. INJURIES FATAL TO H. OKAMURA Hiroshi Okamura, 26, 10 E-6C, died at the center hospital Tuesday evening from a rupture of the left lung received while work- ing at the head of the Man- vel canal near Lamar Mon- day. He was on top of a pile drive guide adjusting it, when it tipped over and crushed him. Okamura is survived by his wife, Yoshiko, and children, Hiroichi and Yaeko,and parents, Mr. and Mrs.Suyeichi Okamura, sis- ters,Kimi and Yuki, broth- ers,Saburo,Hirofumi, Tosh, and Togo. Services will be tomorrow, 2 p.m., 12G Buddhist hall. ‘PEEPING TOM' ARRESTED IN 8K A 21-year-old "Peeping Tom”was apprehended Thurs- day evening in the women's shower room at Block 8K and is now in the custody of the police department. According to the depart- ment, the youth was cutting holes in the ceiling above the women's shower room and was noticed by a resi- dent taking a bath. He was immediately reported. He had entered onto the ceiling through a vent in the men's shower room.
