Granada PIONEER Vol. I, No. 78 Amache, Colorado June 30, 1943 DEDICATION OF SCHOOL SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY The pageant dedicating the new Amache senior high school building will be held Friday only, instead of two nights as previous- ly announced. The program will be presented at the new school auditorium at 8 p.m. Overture by the senior high school band will open the program, followed by dedicatory remarks by Paul J. Terry, superintendent of schools. The play, "Young Ameri- cans Learn About Being A- mericans," presented by the elementary school stu- dents, will show the vari- ous classroom activities followed by the students during the school year. The junior high school's pageant, ''Youths' Day In Amache," will portray the academic and social life of the students, while the senior high's "Youths' Role In America" will show the students in different parts of the country after they have been relocated and how school training has benefited them. At this time young men who have become 21 years old during the past year will be informed of their responsibilities and priv- ileges as American citizens and recite the American creed. Paul J. Terry will administer the Citizenship's Oath. JULY 9, 10 AND 11 SET FOR CARNIVAL The carnival sponsored by the recreation depart- ment and originally sched- uled for Independence Day is postponed until July 9, 10, and 11. According to the carni- val committee, 60 booths are planned. These con- cessions will be handled by the YWCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts,YBA and other young people’s groups . Planned as part of the three-day celebration is a parade,a track meet, sumo, a softball and hardball tournaments and a dance. In conjunction with the festivities, the Blue Star Mothers will carry on a War bond and stamp drive. 17-YEAR-OLDS MUST REGISTER Center residents who have reached 17 years of age and who have not regis- tered for the WRA leave clearance application nor filled out the "Statement of US Citizen of Japanese Ancestry" are asked to do so immediately. Lewis W. Fanslan, employment offi- cer, is in charge of the registration. NEWSMEN To Visit Center Due to arrive at the center tomorrow is a con- tingent of more than 20 representatives of the press, newsreel and radio who will t ake advantage of the "open house" to obtain first-hand information con- cerning the evacuees-. For two days,tomorrow and Fri- day, they will be allowed complete freedom to roam the project ground and ac- quaint themselves with the manner in which the resi- dents conduct their lives. The open house has been extended through Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in order to give the repre- sentatives of several week- ly newspapers a chance to visit Amache. Invitations were given jointly by the WRA end OWI. ADMINISTRATIVE SET-UP TO SEE MODIFICATION Effective tomorrow, a redistribution of activities in the administrative staff operations will be made to conform to the pattern set up by the Washington MA office. The three divisions are community management direct- ed by W.Ray Johnson; oper- ation management, Donald E. Harbison; and adminis- trative managementinent, Henry F. Halliday. Sections grouped in these divisions are as follows; COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT Education-Paul Terry Internal security-Har- low Tomlinson Welfare--John J.O.Moore Health--Dr.William Car- starphen Community activities-- Harvey Turk Community analysis--John Rademaker Business enterprises-- E. Read Hanson Office services-Marion G. Wells Personnel-Ruby Fuller Statistics Directly under Project Director James G. Lindley will be the legal,reports, and employment divisions. SHORT-WAVE RADIO DEADLINE TODAY The deadline for the turning in of all short- wave radios owned by evac- uees is today. The sets must be taken to the office of Police Chief Harlow Tomlinson.
