PIONEER Sports Page 6 June 16, 1943 Johnnie Presents By tsuruta aa all-stars Having matched all of the AA players in action, and having weighed careful- ly the ability of each, we're picking the mythical AA softball team of the center. For pitcher,we'll choose Romeo Kitagawa of the cham- pionship Dodger team, who has a perfect pitching rec- ord of four straight wins. Kenny Ohki, of the Dodgers and Tom loka, Deltans, are on a par but Tom's superior batting places him in the number one spot for catcher. Old-timer George Kawamura, Deltans, is picked to cover the initial sack. At sec- ond, we like Mas Uyesugi, Duster, who was shifted from the short patch. The hot corner is held down by Flu Inaba, Deltans. Fred Kishi, Dodgers, with his .714 hickory average can't be beat at the short-step berth. In the outfield we like Su Fukuyama, Wahoos' heavy sticker, Kanemi Ono and Tosh Shimlzu, Dodgers, and Sat Uyekubo, Dusters. Each is noted for his hitting and fielding ability. Honorable mention must be given to speedball chuck- er Tad Mukaihata, Wahoos, who wrecked his arm after winning his first two games. With Tad on the mound, the Wahoos may have copped the AA pennant. Four AA, Four A Teams Signed Four AA and four A teams have signed up for the baseball leagues expected to start next month. They ere the Dodgers, Knines, Dusters, and Deltans in the AA and Sepol, Skibos, and two teams, from the Motor Pool in the A league. The deadline for sign- ups is June 21 (Monday), according to Harry Shiro- naka and Joe Harada, ath- letic directors. All teams wishing to participate in any of the leagues are asked to sign up at the 7E rec office before that date. AA SWAT KING FRED KISHI TOPS BATTERS Fred Kishi, slugging short stop of the champion Dodgers, won the AA soft- ball batting crown with a fat .714 average in six league games. Tosh Shimi- zu of the Dodgers and Su Fukuyama of the Wahoos fol- lowed with .600 and .583 averages respectively. The averages, compiled from the rec. department's official score book, of those who played two or more games and hit .200 or better, follows: GP Pct. B. Umekubo, Du 2 .500 Y. Hara, De 4 .444 M. TO MEET ECHOES KNINES BEAT SKIBOS, 8-1 With pitcher George Ta- kaoka hurling brilliant ball, the Knines easily took the measure of the Skibos, 8-1, Monday evening at the 10F field. This win gave the Knines a tie for the A league lead- ership with the Echoes. These two teams will meet for the A softball champion- ship tomorrow, 6:30 p.m. at the 10F diamond. The Knines started their fireworks in the third in- ning when ace Pitcher George Takahashi of the Skibos allowed two hits and a walk, and gave up two runs. Add- ing three more runs in the next inning, the winners practically sewed up the game. In the fifth, Skibo pitcher George Takahashi blew up when Kenneth Ozaki swatted one of his "float- ers" for a home run. Be- fore the inning was over, the Knines had put across another three runs. Wayne Horita relieved Takahashi and hurled no-hit ball for the final two innings. The Skibos combined two hits and a fielder's choice for their only run of the game in the last of the seventh. Heavy stickers for the day were Knines ' catcher Joe Harada and Pitcher Hori- ta of the Skibos with two hits apiece.
