Page 4_______________PIONEER______________June 2, 1943 BOY SCOUTS Flag Ceremony With Troop 179 Drum and Bugle corps participating, the Boy Scouts of Amache held a Flag-raising cere- mony at the 8H school grounds Sunday. All Boy and Cub Scouts participated. The Scouts then fell into formation and with the drum and bugle corps leading, paraded around the center. YOSHIDA-SUGAWARA WED ON SATURDAY Chiyoko Yoshida became the bride of Fred Minoru Sugawara at the 10H church hall Saturday evening. Rev. Iwakichi Haratani official- ted. Friends and relatives attended the banquet that followed. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs . Noriklchi Yoshida,formerly of Livingston. The groom is the eldest, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hideji Sugawara, formerly of Sebastopol. Baishakunin were Messrs and Mesdames Chokichi Saka- guchi and Kiyoji Okubo. HIGH SCHOOL HOP AT TERRY HALL A benefit dance will be sponsored by the high school boys' club at Terry hall from 9 to 12 p.m., Friday. Music will be furnished by the Music Makers. Admission is 15 cents per couple and 10 cents for stags and stagettes . YWCA GIRLS GIVEN LEAVE PROCEDURES Instructions on leave procedures were given to girls who will attend the YWCA harvest camp at Vine- land,Colo., at Hospitality House Monday. Methods of picking peas and bunching of carrots will be taught to the girls tomorrow at Hospitality House,6:30 p.m. The girls are all asked to be present. The theme will be "Arise, 0 Chris- tian Youth," and the theme song, "Arise, 0 Youth of God." Registration will be on Friday, 7:30 p.m. at the 7H church hall. Mary Sai- to and Tazuko Uragami will be in charge. Included in the program will be singspiration, led by Hen- ry Suzukida, theme song by the Granada Christian church choir, and a violin solo by Shizue Osuga, Mika Kuzu- hara will be the pianist, and Rev. Akira Kuroda will act as chairman. A girls ' trio composed of Lucy Kishi, Loretta Ko- iki, and Chieko Nagatoishi will be featured at Sat- urday's session. Sam Fu - jita will be the chairman. CATHOLIC CHURCH The Feast of the Ascen- sion will be held by the Catholic church at a 10 o ' clock mass tomorrow at the 11K recreation hall. KARATSU'S SERMON "The Truth Will Make Yourself Free" will be Uno- suke Karatsu's sermon at the Seicho-No-Iye meeting tomorrow, 7:30 p.m. at the 12G recreation hall. ALL-DAY PROGRAM An all-day program is being planned for the joint meeting of the Lycan and Amache Seventh-Day Advent- tist groups Saturday. Spe- cial music and pep talks will be featured. Y’S way Youngest of the Y groups are the Wee Amache-ettes under the supervision of Mrs. Masaji Murai, the members being between the ages of 8 and 11 years. Their latest project was making scrapbooks for the hospital. -Y- "Homemaking as a Voca- tion” will be the topic of Mrs. Lottie More’s talk to the Silverines, Satur- day, 2 p.m. at Hospitality House. -Y- Mae Uno, adviser of the Tri-Delts and member of the Twenteens, left for Hattiesburg,Miss., yester- day. -Y- Elma Amamoto, president of the Twenteens, will be in charge of the Y's Circle meeting Saturday, 2:30 p.m. at Hospitality House. All presidents, members -at- large, and advisers of B and I clubs are asked to attend. -Y- John J.O. Moore, public welfare counselor, spoke on "How's and Why's of Group Leadership" to Y*s Circle and GR advisers Fri- day at Hospitality House. -Y- Sumi Shirafuji, presi- dent of the Valaines, left for Greeley to attend school. -Y- Evelyn Miyashima is tem- porary chairman of the new GR group and Toshiko Taha- ra is the secretary. The group is advised by Mrs. Catherine Stegner and Mary Kito. -Y- Purpose and activities of the Y were discussed at the Advisory board meeting Saturday. Officers will be elected on June 26. -Y- Letters from former Twenteen members, Grace Hanaki, who is now in Chi- cago,and Ensign Inez Neil, San Diego, were read at the group's picnic at Koen ranch Saturday afternoon.
