P I O N E E R Sports May 12, 1943___________________Page 6 SPORTS YARDBIRD By YOSH FUJITA QUEEN TWIRLER Regarded around sports circles as queen of soft- -ball hurlers, Shinobu Kuni- moto of the Sepol Rambler- ettes blinds the opponents with her dazzling fast ball. By shutting out the Hay- seeds, 11-0, Saturday, she turned in a remarkable per- formance, especially in femme softball. Behind the plate is sister, Ayone, forming the best girl bat- tery in camp. LINE DRIVES Nob Kuwatani, ace Echo catcher (A league), has smacked the horsehide safely seven times in eight trips to the plate in two games. He boasts an average of .875. Nob cleaned the bases twice against the Granders Saturday afternoon and went on to have a perfect day with the hickory. CATCH OF THE WEEK This week, mention is given Wahoo Nob Kurita, who made a running shoe- lace catch of Deltan Harry Shironaka's Texas leaguer into short left field, robbing Harry of what seemed to be a sure single. PLAY FAIR Recently the Block league managers adopted a ruling barring AA pitchers to per- form for their block teams. If the league is going to allow other AA players to play their regular posi- tions, why not the pitchers also? Such a ruling should be abolished. CHATTER Books on coaching and playing of nearly all sports are now available at the high school library. ===HOW THEY STAND=== AA LEAGUE W L Pct.
