Page 6___________PIONEER____________May 1, 1943 'LOVE THY NEIGHBOR' TO BE SCREENED The feud between radio comedians Fred Allen and Jack Benny is brought to the screen in the picture, "Love Thy Neighbor," which will start a four-day run, beginning Monday.. Tomorrow night will be the last opportunity to witness the drama of Uncle Sam's new para-troops in "Parachute Battalion," starring Robert Preston, Nancy Kelly, Harry Carey, and Edmund O'Brien. Glasses Fitted At Block 6G Fitting of eyeglasses will hereafter be done at 6G-1F, and delivery will also be made from there, according to Consumer En- terprises . However, persons wishing to have their eyes examined must still register at the out-patient clinic at the hospital. Eye examinations will continue to be held at the hospital. VAUDEVILLE SHOW TO PRECEDE MOVIES A half-hour of vaude- ville is tentatively planned by the recreation depart- ment to precede the movies, according to Byko Umezawa of the recreation depart- ment. Issei entertainment will be provided by J. Gondo, K. Kumagai, and Sumi Kawa- mura, while Robert Dierlam will present numbers, for the nisei. This new pro- gram is scheduled to begin Monday evening. ====AMACHE EDUCATION NEWS==== KATS ARIMOTO SELECTED SCHOOL ANNUAL EDITOR At the recent meeting of the Student council, Kats Arimoto was chosen editor of the Amache senior high annual. Assisting him will _be Betty Kanemeishi as assistant editor, and Joe Sugawara as business manager. The other members of the staff include Shizue Maru- moto, Fumi Ota, Fumiye Sa- kaguchi, Charlotte Iwata, Dorothy Sato, Frances Sasa- no, Emiko Kuzuhara, Jimmy Tanaka, Mary Rikimaru, Harry Fukasawa, Misako Kawaguchi, Marna Miura, Emiko Nakano, Ken Rikimaru, Ted Kinoshi- ta, Biz Fukuda, Jane Kubota, George Watanabe, Bill Yama- moto, Theodore Aral, Miles Hamada, George Hinoki, Ruth Takemura, Momoyo Kinoshita, Marion Konishi, Ken Naga- moto, Toshio Kawasaki, Min Takata, Mary Miyao, Joy Takeyama, and Akira Riki- maru. The advisers for the staff are Helen Wilcoxon and Grace Good, instruct- tors. ATSUSHI KiKUCHI GOES TO MINIDOKA Atsushi Kikuchi, art instructor in the junior high school, left recently for Minidoka, Ida., to vis- it his parents before going to work outside. TWO INSTRUCTORS LEAVE FOR WORK Amy Okazaki, who has been teaching commercial subjects in the senior high school, will leave very shortly for Chicago, where she will work for the Scott, Foresman company, educa- tional publishers. Mrs. Sumi Kashiwagi, kindergarten teacher, is expected to leave with her family today for Minnea- polis, where her husband will be manager of the Bap- tist hostel to be opened there. NURSERY TEACHERS RESIGN POSITIONS Tomi Ikeda, Miyo Sakura- da, and Harriet Morikawa, teachers at the Amache nursery school, left here for outside employment. Misses Ikeda and Sakurada went to Chicago, and Mori- kawa to Pueblo. Dr. Enoch Dumas, princi- pal of the elementary school, states, "There are no pros- pects to take their places, and we will be glad to have volunteers." ENROLLMENT TOTALS 544 The present total en- rollment for the Amache senior high is 544. There has been a decrease of 27 during the quarter, which is due to postgraduates taking outside employment or enrolling at schools, out- side the center. The 10th grade exceeds the rest with an enrollment of 188. The number of students in the 11th and 12th grades are 167 and 176, respectively. The post- graduate group consists of 13 students. ORDWAY SENIORS TO VISIT HERE The seniors of the Ord- way high school will visit the center Monday, as an activity of their senior "ditch" day. Several other schools have requested to visit this center and its schools on their senior ditch days. TWO ADDED TO STAFF Gatewood Peterson, for- mer electrical engineer from Stamford, Conn., and John A. La Coste, from Ce- dar Rapids, Ia., have been added to the teaching staff of the Amache schools. Peterson attended the University of Illinois Col- lege of Electrical Engin- eering, and still later, Ohio State university's graduate school. He was supervisor of the Labora- tory of Arts and Industries at Ohio State Model high school in Columbus, Ohio. Peterson is now in charge of the industrial arts classes. La Coste is a graduate of Coe college of Iowa, where he majored in his- tory. He did post graduate work at the University of Iowa. He is now teaching science to Amache junior high students.
