Granada P I O N E E R Vol. I. No. 54 Amache, Colorado April 7, 1943 CHECKS TO BE CASHED FREE Effective today, the charge for cashing all checks , will be removed, announced Ken Shintani, general manager of the com- munity enterprises. Checks will be cashed at the west end of the PIONEER build- ing. Shintani also stated that the various depart- ments will accept checks, only if the amount of the check is equal to or less than the sale. April 12 Set As Clinic Date April 12 has been set as the day for the crippled children's clinic at the class room of the hospital administration building, according to Dr. William T. Carstarphen, chief medi- cal officer. Doctors work- ing under the Colorado State Board of Health will be present to make the ex- aminations. COUNCIL ADOPTS TWO CENTER ORDINANCES The council unanimously adopted two ordinances Mon- day. The first pertains to all offenses against the peace and security of the Granada relocation cen- ter, and includes injuries to persons and property, frauds, gambling, prosti- tution, drunkenness, carry- ing of deadly weapons, ob- scenity, disturbing of peace, and the licensing of dogs. The second ordinance pertains to traffic rules and violations similar to the California motor ve- hide code and familiar to most center residents. Hereafter it will be unlawful and will be a mis- demeanor for any evacuee to do any act forbidden in these ordinances. Violators will be tried and sentenced by the ju- dicial commission which will be composed of five residents and three admin- istrative officials. The maximum penalty will be three months in jail. SOCIAL SECURITY, WRA TO GIVE FINANCIAL AID Evacuees on leave from relocation centers who get into emergency financial difficulties may receive as- sistance under an agreement worked out between the WRA and the Social Security board, stated an announce- ment from Washington today. "The new plan," Project Director James G. Lindley pointed out, "does not in any sense imply that center residents who go out on leave are likely to be un- able to make ends meet. It simply means that when they run into a problem too heavy for them to solve alone, the facilities of relief and welfare agencies are open to them, as well as to es- tablished residents of the communities.” Most local relief pro- grams provide emergency med- ical care and living expenses to persons in need. Feder- al funds from the Social Security board will be al- located to local agencies for aid to evacuees. 50 FARM WORKERS ARE NEEDED HERE The farm section has issued an urgent request for 50 more workers for the planting season. La- borers are also needed to clean ditches for ir- rigation purposes. All interested persons are asked to apply at the farm section office im- mediately. NEW SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED The following hours for baby food stations in the respective mess halls have been released by the cen- ter hospital: 6E, 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. 6F, 10 to 11 a.m. 6G, 10 to 11 a.m. 6H, 9 to 10 a.m. 7E, 9 to 10 a.m. 7F, 9 to 10 a.m. 7G, 10 to 11 a.m. 7H, 9 to 10 a.m. 8E, 2 to 4 p.m. 8G, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. 8F, 10 to 11 a.m. 8K, 9 to 11 a.m. 9K, 9 to 10 a.m. 9L, 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. 10H, 9 to 11 a.m. 11E, 10:30 to 11 a.m. 11K, 9 to 10 a.m. 12E, 10 to 11 a.m. 12H, 8:30 to 9 a.m. 12K, 10 to 11 a.m. Time for the 9E, 9H, 10E, 11F, 11G, 11H, 12F, and 12G mess halls will be announced later.
