Page 4 PIONEER March 24, 1943 Y’s way The Girl Reserves who attended the La Junta con- ference wish to thank Flo- rence Dillon, RN, of the center hospital, and Grace Lewis for driving them to and from La Junta. Also thanks to Norman Satow and the various mess halls for the lunches they provided, and to the police department for their escort service. Call on the GR’s if you want their help, for their motto “Ready For Service.” -Y- To the Colleens: Re- member the important busi- ness meeting at the Y of- fice tonight at 6:30 o'- clock. Officers will be elected, the constitution adopted, and future plans discussed. -Y- All Y members are re- minded to cooperate by c o n- tributing scrap metal to the scrap pile on the empty lot across from Block 6F. -Y- Mrs. Louise North, GR secretary of the Arkansas valley, sends special greetings to the Amache GR with the hope that she will see you soon. She is sorry her illness forced her to miss the conference. -Y- Our sincerest thanks to Mrs. Howard Eckley of Den- ver, who sent us a box of materials for craft use. -Y- Following a short busi- ness meeting, the Mersan- tas held a scavenger hunt and a hamburger feed at the home of Shizue Yamaji, 9L-1C, Sunday afternoon. -Y- Election of officers was held by the Tweenteens Tuesday night at the home of Margaret James and Eno- la Kjelgaard, No.2 barrack. Yoshiko Furukawa and Reiko Habu are in charge of the April 6 meeting with “how to Choose Friends” as the Topic. They were accompanied by six GR advisers, Mrs. Kazu Kuwahara, Emiko Oka, Jaine Oi, Mae Uno, Emi Hincki, and Hana Uno, and Mrs. Lottie More, Mrs. Freda Mahoney, Grace Lewis, and Catherine Ludy of the education staff. The theme, "GR's on the Home Front," was carried out in the speeches, dis- cussions and recreation period. A candlelight ceremony- al, which brought the con- ference to a close, was written and presented by the Amache GR's. Those participating were Sandie Saito, Mary Hori, Louise Sasano, Karumo Hamahashi, Rumi Tonai, Grace Yamagu- Chi, Michi Kobayashi', Ha- ruke Kochi, Jane Sato, Ada Yamasaki, and Namiko Ota. Following dinner, Grace Yamaguchi, Grace Yatabe, Jane Magai, and Julia Yo- shioka presented a minia- ture quiz quest. More than 250 delegates attended the conference repre- senting chapters from Fowler, Manzanola, Rocky Ford, Sugar City, Swink, Las Animas, La Junta, and Amache. RUNDQUIST TO MAKE OFFICIAL VISIT George E. Rundquist, executive secretary of the Committee on Resettlement of Japanese-Americans, will make an official visit to the center April 25 to 27. He is representing this committee which has 14 de- nominations in the United States participating. This group aids in ortanizing resettlement committees. GEORGE KIYABU LECTURES TONIGHT "Is Japan's War Prophe- sied in the Bible?" will be the topic discussed by Evangelist George Kiyabu tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the 7G recreation hall. Preceding the lecture, movies will be shown from 7 o'clock. The public is cordially invited to attend. Dedication Week Program Announced Rev. Curtis Westfall of the Lamar Presbyterian church will speak tonight at the 10H recreation hall at 7 p.m. in the first in a series of Week of Dedi- cation sermons. Special music will be provided by the church choir and solo- ists from Lamar. Rev. Ma- sao Hirata will be the chairman. Speaking tomorrow night will be Rev. Harry Hashi- moto with Rev. Chiaki Ku- zuhara as the chairman. Gospel singing and special music will precede the sermon. Rev. Gabriel Upton of the Lamar Methodist church will speak on Friday night. Gospel singing and special music are also planned. Rev. Hashimoto will be Chairman. Dr. Kirby Page, well- known writer and traveller, is scheduled to speak Sat- urday night.
