December 16, 1942 PIONEER Page 3 PARENTS IN DISCUSSION A parent's council meet- ing was held Thursday to discuss matters vital to the children's progress in the elementary school Prin- cipal Dumas declared this week. Representatives at the council meeting were K. Hanamura, K. Ichikawa, John Yamamoto, first grade; Mi- yoko Nozawa, T. Aratani, F. Yamamoto, second grade; M. Igasaki, T. Yamada, S. Shigemura, third grade ; Joseph Odama, M. Akahoshi, fourth grade; Albert H. Ohama, T. Miyamoto, fifth grade; J. Kiyahara, D. Ka- wamoto, M. Kado, Hatsuko Tamura, sixth grade. Xmas Tickets Available Tickets for the Christ- vesper service and program to be presented by the jun- ior high school in Terry hall Dec. 22 may be ob- tained from performers free of charge, Principal Her- bert K. Walther stated to- day. Admission will be by tickets only. Coradell Crain and Nor- een Klein will direct the choral singing; Janet Tsu- chiya and George Kubota, the orchestra; and Robert George will be in charge of the choral speaking. The stage setting will be erected by Tom Okamoto, Lens Murakami, and Richard Nakamura. HIGH SCHOOL TO HAVE PROGRAM A Christmas program will be presented by the senior high school students on Dec. 22 and will be fol- lowed by a party the next evening, the senior high school office stated today. Plan Jig for 'Old Timers' An "Old Timers’" dance is planned for Monday, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at Terry hall. Only married couples will be permitted. Tickets, 10 cents each, may be ob- tained at 7E recreation hall or at the door. MESS HALLS GET CHRISTMAS TREES Each mess hall in the center will be brightened with the addition of a Christmas tree during the holiday season, ac- cording to word received from a group of Japanese residing in Rocky Ford. Gifts and decorations will also be among the donations to be made to the center. NEW BRIDGE GROUPS PLAY Additional bridge classes have been announced by the recreation department. Be- ginners and advanced players may now play on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 7 to 10 p.m. and Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. at 7K recreation hall. These classes will begin Friday. Bridge enthusiasts meet at 11K recreation hall on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 7 to 10 p.m. Roy Iizuka is the in- structor for both groups. RUSTLINGS FROM OTHER CENTERS HEART MOUUTAIN... An ice rink is being built and will be about the size of a football field. The rink will be divided into three parts; for children, adults, and competitive games. Snow slides will also be built. Apple preserves, apple juice, and dried apples were put up by the canning project. Organization of a USO is underway and the campaign will be climaxed with a huge all-community dance. A drive to obtain 750 new members has been started by the Boy Scouts. ROHWER... Workers have received their November pay checks with those in the public works, maintenance, internal security, employment and housing, and administration divisions being first. Three miles from the center will lie five log cabins and a council fire- place for the Boy Scouts’ use. These cabins will be built by the Scouts them- selves. MINIDOKA With a Christmas tree promised for each dining hall, school room, church, and the hospital ward, a decorating contest has been started. Students will vote on their school name with Mountain View, Sage Side, and Bennett's grammar sug- gested for one school and Sun Valley, Minidoka gram- mar, Victory school, Snake Valley, and Stafford school for the other. As soon as a boiler is completed, steam whistles will be blown to denote time for the entire center. Allowances in Cash Planned In answer to many que- ries about clothing allow- ances for the July-August- September period, John J. O. Moore, head of the pub- lic welfare division, as- sures that allowances will be paid in cash soon. LIEUTENANT IN ADDRESS Stating that the role which the nisei in the armed forces play is vital in relocating evacuees, 1st Lt. Roy Hirano of the Camp Savage Army Intelli- gence school enlistment staff, spoke to the senior high school English and social studies classes Fri- day at Terry hall. Lieutenant Hirano also described the various phases of his work and the life at Camp Savage. 15 Ping Ponq Tables in Use Fifteen ping pong tables have been placed for the residents' use at various recreation halls and laun- dries. Major recreation halls are located at 6E, 11G, and 12K. Those in the process of completion include 6G, 10E, 11K, 12H, and 12E. Blocks 6H, 7H, 8K, 9H, 11H, and 12G have ping pong equipment in laundries.
