Again this year our Servicescope was prepared by Mrs. Paul Ellis in May and October. The hospital personnel do the printing and mailing. We all appreciate the work Aileen does on the Newsletter to make us all aware of what is happening in the different services. We would like to thank the hospital personnel for their help in printing and mailing. On November 2nd of this year we started a new service; this one in the Surgery Suite. We were requested by the nursing staff to assist the surgery personnel in staffing the desk and to carry out any other duties requested of us. Chiefly, we answer the telephone, do clerical work and run errands as requested. We have only seven volunteers, five regular workers and two substitutes. Each volunteer works one day a week. Surgery felt because of the specialized nature of our duties, the above arrangement was the best method. We work from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on week days only. From all reports to date, the volunteers and hospital personnel connected with this service are all very enthusiastic about the program, and many members of the medical staff have expressed their approval of our efforts. Mrs. Eleanor Firstenberger has organized this service and is chairman. I have appreciated the support of all of the executive officers. Mrs. Norman Harrell and Mrs. Wells Harmon, Vice Presidents, and every member of the Alliance have given their complete cooperation. I thank you all. Now, Mr. Peters, I would like to present a check for $5,000 which brings the total to $21,000 for the eleven month period. PRESENTATION OF PLAQUE TO RESIGNING BOARD MEMBER President Peters thanked James B. Mayer, who has been a board member since January 1, 1965 and has served on a number of committees, for his outstanding contributions and presented him with a plaque with the following inscription: "In recognition of outstanding service and dedication to Fresno Community Hospital as a member of the Board of Trustees, 1965-1971, JAMES B. MAYER. "Jim Mayer is to be commended for his role in making Fresno Community Hospital a major Health Care Center. December 8, 1971." Resigning Member Mayer was not in attendance. The plaque will be presented to him at a later date. PRESENTATION OF PLAQUE TO MEDICAL STAFF PRESIDENT President Peters then presented a plaque to Richard Smiley, M.D., President of the Fresno Community Hospital Medical Staff, commending him for his service to the hospital and for the outstanding job he has done as president. President Peters then introduced all of the members of the Board of Trustees and thanked them for their many hours of service and work to the hospital. Member Eaton, speaking for all of the members of the Board, expressed thanks to President Peters for his many hours of work and service to Fresno Community Hospital and for the results it has brought about. He then made a motion, seconded by Trustee Rowell, that these remarks be included in the record. Member Richard H. Smiley, M.D. Willson added his expression of thanks to President Peters. BENEDICTION: The benediction was given by the Reverend Carl Robinson, Fresno Community Hospital Chaplain. ADJOURNMENT President Peters asked if there were any comments from the floor before adjourning the meeting. Hearing none, the meeting was adjourned at 5:10 p.m. PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL REPORT As President of the Board of Trustees of Fresno Community Hospital, it is a pleasure to present my 1971 report at this, the 26th annual meeting. This year was a stimulating and exciting year for our hospital family. The dreams and aspirations of providing the finest of health care facilities for the citizens of our community have been realized by the completion and dedication of our new $16 million building and expansion programs. In line with our established policy, the Fresno Community Hospital has kept abreast of the progressive changes in medical science and now is on the thresh- hold of offering total health care. The Board of Trustees, in cooperation with our administrative and medical staffs, federal, state and local health agencies, is rapidly approaching the challenging goal of providing the best in hospital care through the cooperation, understanding, and support of the citizens of Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley. Our new and comprehensive health care center, made up of people who care, provides facilities, services and personnel to treat the physical and emotional needs of our citizens.
