KW iewih March 21, 1945 , PICHHHR: fKLEtttlH MLLIF*% rMOJKTF JLMV1C "VITH SIXTH AHHY, France . —■ --In some of the roughest fighting terrain in the European Theater of Operations, the 442nd Infantry's second battalion is engaged in front-line combat high in the French Alps along the Franco-Italian border. As part of Lieut. Gen. Jacob L. Devers' Sixth Army Group, the battalion is sending out patrols into the mountain wilderness, exploring enemy territory for signs of troop movement and weaknesses. Among the Nisei-- GI' s of the • second bat talion are the following Amacheans: S/Sgts. Howard M. Fuji- wara., 12G-9A„ and Shigeyoshi T. Takata, 12F- 8A; T/Sgt. Paul Yamamoto, 6F-6A, and Sgts. A new- rationing system, for tho sale of cigarettes was adopted at the joint meeting of the Co-on board of directors and the business committee Held ■ last Saturday afternoon, disclosed. One thousand two - hundred ration tickets, holding 20 stamps, have been distributed to the 29 blocks in proportion to the number ;.of persons over 18 years of age in the block. These ducats will be given to the smokers in each block at the discretion of the block's Co-op business committeeman or a special block committee created for this purpose. Bach stamp on the ticket will be valid for a three- day period (Monday-Tuesday- YTednesday or Thursday-Friday-Saturday') and will expire automatically at the end of the third day. Tickets will expire in 10 weeks, at which time new tickets will be Issued. The first stamp becomes valid tomorrow and will expire Saturday night. Stamp 2 becomes valid Monday and expires YTednesday night; stamp 3becomes-valid Thursday and expires Saturday night, and so on. As 1200 packages of cigarettes will be sold acros-s the counter for each, three- day period, each ration ticket holder is assured of two packages a week. Patients needing dental or optometry services are to register directly with these clinics. '■ While 'repairing the damage, an enemy artillery shell landed. 10 yards away and wounded himin'the leg, "Ignoring . his. injury, which needed medic aJL attention, he voluntarily remained on duty until the necessary repairs w e re made,-" the citation continued. "The following day, while^repairing the line under similar circumstances, he was again hit and though severely injured, completed the repair with the help of a rifleman "before being . evacuated to the rear." ' Awarding of the Silver Star to Tadakuma was announced over the radio station KOA in Denver last Monday morning.
