REPORTER MAY, 1984 ISSUE REPORTER: Nadine Nishio ADDRESS CORRECTION REQUESTED *XXXXXX*** ******* ** X-*** H(*HHHHHW*****WH MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE It is so easy to forget that JACL made possible legislation to enable our Issei to become naturalized American citizens j to eliminate racial discrimination in our immigration^ laws5 to kill anti-alien land lawsj to erase anti-miscegenation laws. But, can you forget.as easily the heroic sacrifices of our Japanese American soldiers in World War II, the Korean conflict, and the war in Vietnam? More than any other one ' thing, the deeds of our men in the 442/100 Regimental Combat Team on the battle fields of: Europe, and the unsung heroes of the Military Intelligence Service on the Pacific fronts in World War II, gained for the rest of us Japanese Americans the respect of our fellow Americans. They enabled us to return from exile and degradation to our homes with heads high and hearts proud. r ■'At-? A.M., Monday, May 28, the Nisei VFW posts of Handford and Fresno will hold their annual commemorative ser/ice to honor our:Japanese American war dead. The service will be held at the Nls ;i Memorial Monument in Roeding Park. let us honor their memory• Let us attend this memorial service. Let us show our gratitude ;for the supreme sacrifice that they made. 4Jk:. EXHIBIT IN FRESNO This exhibit which has been shown in San Francisco and Los Angeles and. will be shown in Honolulu during the time of the JACL National Convention, will be brought to Fresno for a showing during the month of October. This showing, hopefully at the new Fresno Metropolitan Museum, will be co-sponsored by the CCDC, the VFW posts of Handford and Fresno and the AT t The outstanding record of the 442nd/l00th Regimental Combat Team and the exploits of the Military Intelligence Service Japanese Americans will be brought to the attention Df the Fresno public• CCDC SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 26 Applicants. Mieko is a graduate student in social work at Fresno State. Her parents reside in Kawasaki,, Japan, Since coming to Fresno, she has visited service clubs, elementary schools, and hospitals making presentation on Japanese culture and her impressions of the American scene. She wishes to be an ambassador of good will to create a better understanding among all people regardless of nationality or race. TO BE MARRIED .;-.. ... Carole Morita,. daughter of Tak and Mae Morita, will be married to Edward Brewer on May 27, 1984 at. the. Christ MethUdistChurch in Fresno, Carole is a practicing attorney in Los Angeles, Best wishes to the new couple and congratulations to the proud parents! TO BE MARRIED Janet Elko Iwatsubo, daughter of Mike and Kazue Iwatsubo, was married to Frank Richard Tamura at the Fresno Buddhist Church on May 19, 1984. Again our best wishes to the new couple and. congratulations to. Mike and JKazue.
