Our community should support the kind of efforts of a man who has selected Fresno of all places in the world to teach the traditional Japanese art of kendo • Glasses are held in Fresno and Reedley. For more information contacts George Sakazaki 221-8292 Ray or Grace Arifuku 435-5868 or 646-3078 Wayne Nishio 665-51^7 or 661-2074 ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MASAO AND HANA KIMURA SCHOLARSHIP Mr. George Kimura and his moiiher Hana, former owners of the Boys I%.rket, donated $2,000*00 to the Fresno A.L.L. scholarship fund to be awarded to a high school senior. $500 will be given out each year for four years as long as the recipient remains in college. This award is the highest amount given through the A.L.L. Fresno scholarship program and will therefore be given to our top rank high school senior according to the scholarship committee ranking. We would like to thank Mr. George Kimura and Mrs. Hana Kimura for their very generous donation* SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ASIAN/PACIFIC WOMEN The Central California Asian/Pacific Women are now accepting scholarship applications for the 1984-85 academic year. President Ishii reports that for a fifth year in a row, the Central California Asian Pacific Women have successfully raised enough money to offer substantial scholarships to Asian and Pacific Island women who wish to pursue academic or vocational training programs^ Applicants may either be reentry or continuing students living within the Central Califor* nia geographic area which includes Fresno, Mkdera, Tulare, Kings, Kern, Jferiposa, and V Merced Counties. Awards will be made directly to the recipient and may be used in any college, University, or training program of the recipient's choice. Two $500 and two $250 scholarships will be given this year. The award is made on an annual basis and is renewable. The deadline for applications is June 15t 1984. For more information call at 229-5158. GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY Michio and June Toshiyuki celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary last Jferch. Of the current members of the A.L.L./JACL, it is believed that they are the only couple that has been married fifty years. Our congratulations and best wishes for many more anniversaries. We will Bee to it that the items are forwarded to the next monthly editor. INTRODUCING TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS OF THE A.L.L./JACL Kathy Sasaki comes to us from Chicago Illinois. She is on the faculty of the Fresno State University Nursing Department. She was active in the Chicago JACL, -was Vice President of Programs and a member of the redress committee. Her husband David was also active in the Chicago JACL and is presently employed by Metropolitan Life as an investment analyst. Gary Kajioka moved to Fresno from the Sacramento area. He is employed by Gemco as the store manager. We welcome these new members to the board and look forward to working with them. Ill MINOjg YASUI Has announced his candidacy for JACL National President. His impressive credent* ials establishes him as a formidable candidate for the highest office in JACL. Now retired, he has announced that if elected, he will devote all of his time to the concerns of JACL.
